Cowen’s 388-acre Big Ditch Wildlife Management Area protects forested ridges, open fields, and a quiet 55-acre fishing lake just outside the Monongahela National Forest’s boundary. In addition to hunting and fishing opportunities, Big Ditch also serves as a local escape for hiking, birding, and nature walks. From Cowen, drive south on WV-20 for 1 mile, then turn right onto Birch River Rd (WV-82). Big Ditch Lake will be located to the left.
