From Petersburg, riders can choose routes that climb into high plateaus, cross remote mountain ridges, and explore quiet river valleys. One of the most signature rides climbs into the windswept heath barrens of Dolly Sods, where gravel roads follow the Eastern Continental Divide across a landscape more reminiscent of northern tundra than Appalachia.

Other challenging loops venture south over South Fork Mountain toward the rural communities of Peru, Criders, and Bergton, linking rugged gravel climbs with long descents through remote backcountry. The most ambitious routes continue toward the scenic Lost River Valley and the farms and forests near Moorefield, offering opportunities for overnight bikepacking with stops at places like Lost River State Park.
