At a Glance

Droop Mountain Battlefield State Park preserves the site of West Virginia’s largest Civil War battle, fought on November 6, 1863, where visitors can climb a lookout tower for expansive Greenbrier Valley views. Eight short hiking trails wind along ridge crests through the 287-acre park, while interpretive exhibits and seasonal reenactments bring the battle’s history to life. Located between Marlinton and White Sulphur Springs, Droop Mountain’s quiet picnic areas and proximity to Beartown and Watoga State Parks make it a popular stop for history enthusiasts and families.
