Directions
Multiple trailhead access points are available for the Gauley Base Backcountry.
From Marlinton, drive north on US-219 for 16 miles, turning left at the road sign for Gauley Base Trailhead or continuing for a half-mile to Props Run Trailhead at the Elk River Inn.
From Elkins, drive south on US-219 for 18 miles, turning left at the Huttonsville intersection to continue on US-219 for another 30 miles. For Props Run Trailhead, turn right at Elk River Inn; for Gauley Base Trailhead, turn right onto Mine Road to the parking area. For Gauley Mountain Trailhead, continue west on Mine Road.
