Olson Tower and Blackwater Backcountry
At a Glance
Olson Observation Tower and Blackwater Canyon Backcountry combine sweeping canyon views, rugged riverside trails, and deep railroad history in one of the Monongahela National Forest’s most adventurous landscapes near Parsons. The 100 foot tower provides 360-degree views across Tucker County, while trails descend into the canyon past rare high-elevation wetlands like Big Run Bog, waterfalls, and historic logging remnants. Remote access and challenging terrain make this area ideal for experienced hikers seeking off-trail exploration and Blackwater Canyon solitude.
